Motion detectors have been in use for many years. However, it seems as if innovations in this domain which would improve their performance in certain applications are stagnating. Subsequently sensor technology has evolved, so it is time to demand the next generation of motion sensors. To achieve progress in the motion detector market and to have a chance, new solutions must meet various requirements. They must be easily configurable and seamlessly integrated for a quick turn-around in a competitive marketplace. Motion detectors will often be placed in a technical device or behind a small covering, so they need compact outlines and must be energy saving. Due to its relevance in the commercial market, they must be cost effective and fit in for high volume production. In addition to PIR-sensors, radar technology is available for motion detection. It demonstrates strength, especially when PIR has difficulties in the context of outdoor applications. So modern radar sensors can be a possible solution to solve the challenges and a new alternative to classic infrared motion detectors.
