The Multi-Purpose-Synchronous-Serial-Engine (MPSSE) is a protocol defined by Bridgetek to enable synchronous serial interfaces of various standards, e.g. I2C, SPI, or JTAG. The MPSSE is the bus master, clocking data synchronised to a master clock. The FT4232H device used in this demonstration has two MPSSEs, allowing one to be used for communication with I2C devices and one for use with SPI devices.
