The technology inside the PowerXR product is a .18 micron [BiCMOS] process. This allows dense digital as well as good analog circuitry. The internal digital circuitry is 1.8V, and there is a bypass capacitor for that. When the component is received, even though it might not be programmed, it is designed to be nothing other than a switching regulator. This avoids firmware issues, where if the user gets the firmware wrong it could do something completely different, unexpected, and damage the system, so there is no firmware to be concerned about. It has over 200 registers, it’s set performance of the system, whether it be the sequencing, the output voltage, it also includes PID coefficient which is how the control loop is designed. Now those registers can be burned into the part that uses a onetime programmable memory, it’s an anti-fuse technology, and extremely reliable.
