The NTC Thermistor, also called an Inrush Current Limiter (ICL), is used in equipment such as power supplies that exhibit excessive inrush currents when first turned on. This current spike can cause damage to components and improper fuse tripping. With an ICL placed in a series configuration within the circuit, it is possible to successfully limit these currents to the load. ICLs are able to effectively handle higher inrush currents than fixed resistors with the same power consumption.
