The proper selection of an inrush current limiting component will result in such benefits as reduced current peaks in a circuit, protection of other critical components, and avoidance of unnecessary tripping of fuses. An additional benefit is the space savings on a PCB due to the smaller footprint of an ICL. When compared to a fixed resistor over-current protection solution, an ICL’s resistance will vary depending on the current load. This lowers the load seen by the power supply during normal operating conditions and thereby lowers power consumption.
