PSoC Analog Compressor Slide 10

A PSoC Analog Coprocessor high level overview of what is inside the chip. Shown here on the block diagram and the description on the left, there are programmable analog blocks which consist of the UAB (universal analog block), which has a 14 bit ADC, 12 bit DACs, and an analog filter that is fully programmable. There are also opamps, comparators, an analog MUX capable of 38 channels, a 4th gen CapSense capacitive sensing touch sensing solution. There are a lot of analog to digital converter blocks available on this chip. Not only are there all of these programmable analog blocks to sense analog sensors, analog data can be digitized and processed using the dedicated signal processing engine, which contains a 48 MHz ARM Cortex M0+ CPU, including a DMA controller to easily move data between these peripherals in memory, without taxing the CPU too much. The Flash availability ranges from 16 KB to 38 KB, and corresponding RAM capabilities go from 2 KB to 4 KB. There are also a few housekeeping digital peripherals that are extremely useful like 8 timer counters for PWMs that could be used for driving motors and driving LEDs. There are 3 serial communication channels, such that this preprocessed serial sensor data can be sent over to another host processor in an embedded system that can easily fetch this data over UART, SPI, I2C or such similar serial communication interfaces. This product is available in a few different package types, an easy to use 28 pin SSOP, an extremely small 45 pin CSP (chip scale package), and a couple more traditional packages such as a 48 pin QFN or a 48 pin QFP.
