The power consumption figures presented in this slide are running the EEMBC CoreMark® benchmark. The CoreMark® is an Cortex industry accepted benchmark standard. Coremark is desinged to test the efficency of the core with standard benchmark that incorporates different types of tests for conventions used by a broad range of applications and situations. The benchmark gives a score; how many iterations is the processor able to do per MHz. The SAM4L comes with two regulator options; one switching regulator and one linear regulator. Both regulators can be used to supply power to the system. The linear regulator has a higher noise immunity than the switiching regulator. The switching regulator requires an external inductor but delivers much higher efficency. Also while running at 12 MHz or below, the core voltage can be lowered to achieve an even higher efficiency. All in all, the SAM4L is one of the lowest power Cortex-M4 on the market today. In addition, the SAM4L has very low power consumption in sleep modes. A commonly utilized sleep mode for Cortex devices is the WAIT mode. This mode gives full RAM retention and the SAM4L consumes only 1.5 µA in this mode. Backup mode consumes as little as 700 nA and bundled with the blazing fast wake up of down to 1.5 µA. This really gives the lowest power consumption.
