In summary, the SAM4L sets a new standard for low power consumption. It is considered to be one of the world’s most efficient Cortex-M4. As far as power consumption goes, in active mode; the device consumes down to 90 µA. Another important figure is the power consumption in WAIT mode. WAIT mode is the deepest sleep mode where there is full RAM retention. The SAM4L consumes only 1.5 µA in this mode. In addition, it can go down to 700 nA in backup mode. That is what low power is all about. The SAM4L also works without compromise in the entire voltage range, that means that flash writes and full ADC coverage is fully supported all the way down to the lowest voltage. The SAM4L also features ultra fast wake-up. The SAM4L wakes up in only 1.5 µs from WAIT mode. Bundled with the powerful Cortex-M4 CPU, that means that designers are ready to get the job done sooner and faster than ever before. That means the MCU can go to sleep sooner and conserve power and extend the battery life for the application. The SAM4L is also the first Cortex device to embed the award wining Peripheral Event System. This Event System allows peripherals to communicate and send data to each other without using the CPU. In addition this has been extended into the sleep modes where peripherals can make intelligent decisions on whether or not to wake up the CPU. All of this further reduces the overall power consumption. The SAM4L also features an embedded segment LCD controller and capacitive touch support, to name a few extras.
