The ATAES132 is a standard serial EEPROM converted into a secure device. This hardware implementation of AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) sets a new standard for secure authentication devices. AES is a widely trusted crypto algorithm, thus the ATAES132 makes an excellent solution for highly secure products. Previous Microchip authentication devices, like the ATSHA204, have some storage capabilities in order to store authentication and encryption keys. The ATAES132 has much more memory and, because of this, more flexibility to perform secure authentication of not only components, but also complete systems or networks. Due to its standard EEPROM design, the ATAES132 can easily replace AT24C32D and AT25320B. This calls for an incremental upgrade of a system. Systems that previously did not have security requirements, but are now handling confidential information, can follow an easy upgrade path. Since the AES is an open standard algorithm, there are no NDA, licensing or pre-qualification requirements.
