WSW Components Line of Board-Level Transistor Heat Sink Overview Slide 2

A heat sink is made from metal, typically aluminum alloy that is stamped or extruded into a desired form. Heat sinks are designed to increase the surface area of the device in contact with the cooling medium surrounding it, such as the air. In electronic systems, a heat sink is a passive heat exchanger component that cools a device by absorbing excess heat from an electronic component and dissipating it into the surrounding air.
