Many system designs can be enhanced simply by being able to detect, measure, and translate motion into useful information. One example is translating acceleration information into angles or inclination. Stabilizing an antenna or camera platform is one example, but many exist where tilt information is critical for improving a devices performance, safety, or reliability. Analog Devices’ ADIS1620X family offers a simple and accurate means of extracting tilt information. The ADIS16209 provides angle accuracy as tight as 0.1°. Both X and Y angles are directly accessible over the SPI interface with no additional calibration or processing required. Environmental and other in-use system conditions are continuously monitored and are used to dynamically update the sensor readings for high accuracy. The devices feature programmable internal filtering and condition monitoring, such as user configurable alarms. The device can easily be zeroed to the device to the applications axis with one simple command.
