The iSensor IMU family combines low cost and ease-of-implementation to aid the complex task of multi-axis inertial sensing. Six Degree of Freedom IMUs measure linear and rotational motion on each of three axes. In the past, applications requiring this functionality had to choose from either expensive military-grade IMUs or attempt to build their own from discrete sensors. A build-your-own approach involves complex three axis rate table calibration, where several hundred calibration points must be captured and dynamically processed to provide accurate and stable sensor outputs under the most complex of motion scenarios. All of this is already complete in the 100% factory calibrated iSensor IMUs. These devices are available at a fraction of the cost of military grade IMUs. By breaking down the traditional barriers of implementation complexity and high cost of IMUs, the ADIS1636X family of IMUs enables many new applications in the industrial field. Note the excellent bias stability at 0.007°/second. Also, the factory calibrated sensitivity at 40ppm/°C, tight axis non-orthogonality of 0.05°, and calibrated voltage and linear acceleration effect sensitivities all combine to greatly reduce complexity in both platform stability and navigation systems.
