Different applications require various technical aspects from an inductor. Therefore, Würth Elektronik designs inductors for many different purposes. Litz wire inductors help to alleviate AC losses when frequency is increased and when the inductors face high ripple currents; for example in resonant converters with LLC topologies, PFC stages, or DC/DC converters with high ripples. Another type of inductor is the round wire inductor. Round wire inductors reach higher inductance values in the same package while obtaining good performance at specific switching frequency ranges. Finally, the third type is flat wire inductors. The flat wire inductors feature the best filling factor between the round and litz wire inductors. The flat wire inductors maintain the lowest DC resistance for applications with high DC components, while also obtaining a very good response at high frequencies.
