Universal Serial Bus, more commonly known as USB, is an industry standard interface that defines cables, connectors and communication protocols for connection, communication and power supply between computers and devices. The USB interface enables users to achieve high levels of compatibility with host devices and the flexibility to use the vast majority of SLC, MLC and TLC NAND flash memory components. USB Standards 2.0 was launched around 2001 and offers up to 35 MB/s. USB 3.0 was launched around 2009 and offers up to 400 MB/s. For USB 2.0/3.0 flash drive applications, Viking controllers support high memory capacity, write protection, PC boot-up, password protection and secure partitioning. USB flash drives use flash memory controllers designed to communicate with personal computers through the USB port at a low duty-cycle.
