The small profile combined with the performance of the Blackbird allows it to be incorporated into applications that were previously unachievable with an off-the-shelf embedded computer able to run x86 versions of Windows and Linux. Here are some examples of the types of projects that utilize the power of Blackbird’s rich feature set: The first application is an IoT Edge Concentrator that takes advantage of the processing power of the Blackbird. Data is collected via the Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB 3.0 ports. The data is pre-processed via the CPU and GPU to reduce the amount of data being sent to the cloud data storage. The system makes use of the Blackbird’s Mini PCIe sockets for cellular communications and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth. Blackbird provides these types of applications with a compact and highly-integrated processing platform with a variety of Input and Output options. The extended temperature of the Blackbird allows it to operate in harsh environments from -40°C to +85°C. The next example is an Underwater Unmanned vehicle. This uses the Blackbird’s processing power for navigations and sensor data processing, then storing or transmitting the data for retrieval. The wide variety of Blackbird’s on-board I/O devices allows easy connection to the vehicle’s sensor packages. The family of Blackbird products enables planners the ability to match the mission constraints to the scalable processing power, memory, and power draw. The long product life of the VersaLogic products allows this system to be manufactured for fifteen years or more. Lastly, is an application for a general purpose ruggedized, autonomous vehicle. Vibration, dust, and extreme heat and cold are typical environments for this application. The wide input on-board power supply accepts 8 to 30 VDC input to accommodate both mobile 12 and 24 V systems without damage. Additionally, protection is provided for reverse-voltage, damaging transient voltages, over voltage, and RF intrusion. The -40°C to +85°C operating range allows the Blackbird to consistently operate in the extreme temperature conditions.
