The small profile combined with the performance of the Raven allows it to be incorporated into applications that were previously unachievable with an off-the-shelf embedded computer able to run x86 versions of Windows and Linux. Here are some examples of the types of current customer projects that utilize the power of Raven’s rich feature set: The first application is for an Underwater Unmanned Vehicle (UUV) system that utilizes the ruggedness and compact size of the Raven. The system makes use of the Raven’s extensive on-board I/O, including the four on-board RS-232 ports and one of the dual Mini PCIe sockets to provide additional serial communications interfaces. Raven provides these customers with the required performance in a platform optimized for low power consumption. The next example is for an IoT Edge Concentrator. This uses the Raven’s ability to operate in extreme heat, its processing power, and Mini PCIe sockets for expansion of communications interfaces. Data collection is performed via Wi-Fi, pre-processing is applied to the data, and the result is sent to the cloud via Ethernet interfaces. Lastly is an application for a ruggedized, on-board mining vehicle computer. Vibration, dust, and extreme heat and cold are constants in mining applications. The wide input on-board power supply accepts 8 to 30 VDC input to accommodate both mobile 12 V and 24 V systems without damage. Additionally, protection is provided for reverse-voltage, damaging transient voltages, over voltage, and RF intrusion. The -40° to +85°C operating range allows the Raven to consistently operate in mining’s extreme conditions.
