The current limit  of the XC9248 can select a latch type or an automatic recovery type. The current limit type can be easily chosen based upon the application and how the part will be used. Since the latch type automatically determines an output short circuit, it instantly turns off the driver transistor and then applies a latch, making for a safe design. Once it is at a latch state, operation is resumed by re-enabling the IC by using the EN pin, or re-powering the input voltage. The automatic recovery type maintains the operation with the current limit protection operated even under the abnormal conditions of a short circuit or over-current load. Since the XC9248 returns to normal operation once the abnormal condition is canceled, special protection control is not required.
