Selecting the Best Multi-Sourced Linear Regulator Slide 3

The reference voltage is important since its ability to maintain constant value depicts how well the regulator can output the desired voltage accurately. The reference voltage accuracy of a typical multi-sourced linear regulator may be around 4%. However, devices such as the LM317A with 1% reference voltage accuracy can be found even amongst multi-sourced products. Line regulation is also important and becomes crucial in applications where the input voltage to the regulator varies widely. Furthermore, load regulation needs to be considered when there are rapidly changing current demands through the regulator such as when powering a microcontroller.
