Motor Signal Chain Overview Slide 13

In summary, the integrated motor driver, current sense amp, ADC, and isolation components all have specific design criteria that must be considered when designing a motor drive and control system. When choosing the motor driver, make sure the proper voltage range, current rating (both continuous and peak), RDSON and protection level are selected. For the low side current sense amp, it is important to choose and amp with a slew rate of at least 10V/µS and a gain bandwidth of at least 20MHz. For the in-line current sense amp, make sure the common mode voltage and rejection are high enough for the application. Select an ADC that supports dual simultaneous sampling, a minimum of 10-12 bit resolution and the ability to trigger the ADC reading by the MCU.  Finally, make sure the proper isolation level is selected for the given region and application, and that a high enough working life voltage and data rate are supported.
