This is important since high-brightness LEDs can require more than 1W of power and generate a lot of heat. Failure to control thermals can significantly degrade the lifetime and performance of the LEDs. Improving efficiency levels, however, is one way of improving the overall thermal performance of the device, as this minimizes loss in the form of heat.
