The block diagram on this slide shows the HART protocol and PHY layer running on a single MSP device thus providing developers all of the advantages of HART as well as an integrated single-chip solution. The MSP HART modem (PHY) and protocol solution is based on the fast and low cost LaunchPad+BoosterPack evaluation platform, allowing quick prototyping and translation across MSP families. This is supported by the MSP430F5529 and MSP430FR5969 LaunchPads, the 4-20 ma DAC, and ADS1220 BoosterPacks. The PHY support on the MSP430 removes the need for an external HART modem IC enabling a smaller footprint. The modular BoosterPack solution allows customization of the signal conditioning and sensor setup. There is also a third party PHY and HART stack from Smart Embedded Systems (SES) available through SES. This solution is also available for applications such as factory automation and process control, sensors and field transmitters, and building automation.
