The TIDA-00188 TI Design from Texas Instruments is a full turnkey IO-Link sensor evaluation and fast-prototyping platform. The system leverages the MSP430FR5738 from the family of devices featuring embedded Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (FRAM) nonvolatile memory which brings unique capabilities for field updates and logging. It also has the ADS1220 on board which offers a low-power ADC with a serial peripheral interface (SPI) for read-back from the MCU. The third chip on-board is the SN65HVD101, a dedicated product which is an interface for IO-Link buses and provides the full physical layer of the OSI model (PHY) support and a low-dropout regulator to power the rest of the system. This solution offers fast-prototyping benefits to developers for various factory and building automation applications such as the precision sensor interface which enables easy evaluation with the analog and digital input stimulus on board. Thanks to its modular design, different sections can be easily cut away to allow fast and simple interfacing of any analog or digital sensor. The small 6 mm board width addresses industry standard small form factor requirements. Finally, the FRAM on board enables easy, fast, and secure sensor configuration updates and helps reduces overall power.
