The Mini-SAS HD, or High Density, connection system is the next generation external SAS high-density, high-speed IO interface. Mini-SAS HD has been adopted for the SAS 2.1 standard and proposed for the SAS 3.0 standard and is designed to support up to 12G SAS applications. At four lanes of data per port, the 1x4 configuration supports up to 192G of total data. The reduced size of the Mini-SAS HD system provides additional space for system designers and a keyed connector for proper plug orientation. The one-piece assembly features press-fit termination to the board and can also be screw-mounted for additional retention. As is common in many other high speed IO connectors, the Mini-SAS HD is designed with EMI springs in the area of the receptacle that extend through the bezel opening while in use. The EMI springs and the cover assembly provide EMI suppression and electrical grounding to ensure data integrity. The Mini-SAS HD connector also features an optional light pipe which is used in many applications to carry a light signal from the PCB to the faceplate as indication of status. The Mini-SAS HD cable assembly features an improved latch design that reduces insertion force and increases retention force. The passive Mini-SAS HD copper cable assembly is designed for broadband operation and is optimized for 6 and 12 Gb/s data rates. The available EEPROM signature on the cable assembly enables the host to identify what type and length of cable is connected to its port and can be customized for any application. For greater flexibility in routing, cable assemblies are built using MADISON CABLE brand InfiniTwist cable.
