Breakers add value to a design in that they provide convenience and help to assure proper protection of the equipment. A circuit breaker can be quickly and easily reset after it trips and the circuit fault is corrected. If a fuse blows and the user does not have a replacement fuse readily available, the equipment could be inoperable for an extended period of time while the user searches for a fuse. Also, a breaker ensures that the proper protection value is maintained in the circuit. After a fuse blows, a higher- or lower-rated fuse specified could be inserted, resulting in an improper level of protection. Additionally, some circuit breakers include a switching function and an indicator lamp, allowing a single unit to provide circuit protection, switching and indication functions.
