A typical capacitor replacement study is outlined here. First the module is disassembled, the PCB is reviewed, and target replacement components are identified. Next, the original performance waveforms are measured. Finally, the component is replaced with an MLCC and the performance waveforms remeasured. Once all components have been replaced, the final module should be subjected to the designers normal battery of evaluation tests which may also include EMC and reliability tests.
