As a general rule, capacitance drops as frequency increases. Here, a comparison is made between tantalum (blue), aluminum (purple), and MLCC (green & red) technologies. The X5R and Y5V style MLCCs were chosen since these are considered more lossy than the X7R or C0G materials. As seen here, the MLCCs show much better capacitance stability as frequency increases. Using an electrolytic at a higher frequency results in a much lower capacitance value than originally expected. Therefore, replacing the component with a lower value MLCC based on the circuit frequency will result in the same system performance.
