This chart shows how increasing switching frequencies have resulted in decreasing inductor values over time. Until recently, the maximum switching frequency was 500KHz and required a 4.7µH to 10µH inductor. However, in modern devices engineers have started to use switching frequencies in the range of 1MHz to 3MHz to lower the inductance value down to 2.2µH.
