Several factors need to be considered to determine the Total Cost of Ownership over the lifetime usage of a Solid State Drive. The TCO calculation includes “initial costs” which are relatively easy to define and “deferred costs”. Deferred costs take into account costs of operation, costs associated with the overall quality of the SSD which can reduce operational down time of the end application, data loss and other expensive emergencies. The longevity, or expected life time, of the device is also factored into deferred costs. This includes replacement costs and re-qualification costs.
