The basis for ST’s new magnetometers is thanks to Anisotropic-magneto-resistive or AMR technology. AMR is preferable to other technologies such as hall effect and TMR because Hall effect technology exhibits poor overall performance, while TMR presents a drift in temperature over time because it tends to hold charges. AMR technology is able to do away with these problems by utilizing two pulses during the measurement phase, called a set and a reset. These pulses realign the elements into a single direction which increases the sensor’s immunity to temperature or outside noise effects. AMR is an outstanding technology featuring low current, low noise, low temperature drift, with low offset.
