Over 1 Billion external power supplies are sold worldwide each year. The majority of these supplies are used to convert the high voltage AC to low voltage DC for powering small electronic office equipment or medical products. This conversion will produce wasted heat which brings the overall efficiency to less than 85%. Efficiency is a ratio of output power over input power. To illustrate how increased efficiency will result in energy saving, lets consider 100mW of electricity consumed in an application. By improving the efficiency only 1% the wasted heat can decrease by 1mW. This number becomes significant in reducing wasted power for over one billion external power supplies used globally each year.
