SiTime sets a new standard for small size reference clocks for space constrained applications such as wearables, modules, and mobile. Silicon MEMS technology enables these devices to be housed in a small, 1.5mm x 0.8mm chip-scale package and get away from the limitations of a ceramic package common with quartz XTALs. The SiT1532 oscillator and SiT1552 TCXO occupy only 1.2mm² footprint on the PCB, a 65% to 80% footprint savings compared to the standard XTAL plus load capacitors, as shown here in this side-by-side comparison. In addition, the SiTime solutions eliminate load capacitors and start-up issues common with XTALs, as they can be sensitive to board layout and other sources of stray capacitance.
