The Si826x is the industry’s first drop-in upgrade for many common opto-drivers. The Si826x family is a complete CMOS solution and brings many advantages over traditional opto-drivers. In terms of reliability, the Si826x brings the advantage of using materials and technologies that are immune to aging and environmental effects. Only standard, readily available CMOS process technologies are used, resulting in a much lower failure rate compared to optical based solutions which require the use of specialized, exotic processes. In addition, the architecture used, and its inherently low parasitic capacitance, provides a large common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) improvement over optos. The minimum CMTI can be improved by as much as 75%. CMTI is an important consideration for designers since it provides a direct measure of the noise that the component can withstand without compromising signal integrity. The isolation technology used for the Si826x family is based on Silicon Labs’ industry leading capacitive isolation. This isolation is rated to withstand up to 5 kV and is fully compliant with IEC 60747-5-2, including 10 kV surge protection. There is a wide range of orderable product options in the Si826x family. The current drive options are 0.6 A and 4 A, while UVLO options range from 5 to 12 V. All groups are available in multiple packages. Common applications for the Si826x family include motor control, drives, power inverters such as solar (PV), and switch-mode power supplies. The power efficiency of such systems can be improved with the higher reliability and performance of the Si826x products.
