When looking at automotive applications, low power consumption is the key for any regulator product. Electric and hybrid vehicles have evolved in recent years, and lower power consumption of an electronic component will contribute to the extension of driving range and overall efficiency of the system. Also, in mild hybrid systems, minimizing power usage while the engine comes to a stop becomes critical as more electric power is required to keep the in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system running for driver comfort. Flattening the battery during long vehicle transportation times is yet another concern for this application. To meet this low power requirement with an LDO regulator, reduction of the quiescent current is critical in circuit design.
