Bluetooth® has a long history in applications such as wireless headphones and the wireless mouse. Bluetooth Low Energy is an increased power-saving specification based on Nokia technology introduced in Bluetooth 4.0 in 2010. In the beginning, it was a specification for sending a small amount of data with low power consumption and operated with a coin cell battery. However, in version 4.2 and later, improvements were made to extend the packet length and increase the data rate. This table here illustrates the Bluetooth 5.0 low energy functionality and the enhancements in the RA4W1 including the enhancement of the throughput by a factor of 2, increasing the communication range by a factor of 4, and enhancing the communication link by a factor of 8.
