Screw terminals are preferred by technicians that like to “feel” the torque applied to the wire. They are the oldest, and most common connection type. The downside to screw terminals is that proper screw torque is important and needs to be monitored, they require regular maintenance, and are not an effective choice for applications with high vibration or wide temperature fluctuations. Spring Clamp terminals can save wiring time, are very robust under extreme conditions such as temperature change, shock, and vibration. There is no maintenance required such as re-tightening because the spring maintains a constant pressure on the wire at all times. Push-in terminals have the same advantages as spring clamp terminals, with the added benefit of being able to be wired with robotic wiring systems, saving time and money. They are a new technology, so adaptation and acceptance may take time. Additionally, push-in terminals require that all stranded wires must be properly prepared with ferrules.
