To have a better understanding for the PIT terminal block, this module will now explore three very important connection features of the PIT terminal block. With the PIT, there has been a 50% reduction in push-in force compared to competitors’ terminal blocks as well as Phoenix Contact’s DT series. When comparing the force required to activate the spring, the DT and the competition requires around 30N while the PIT needs a mere 12N. In fact, small wires up to 22 AWG can be used with ferrules and pushed in with no deformation of the wire. As a result of the wire being so easy to push-in, there is faster wiring and less strain for the operator. When considering the ease of actually terminating the wire, there may be doubts about the effectiveness of the connection. The PIT actually has five times the IEC requirement for pull-out force. This high termination retention force will provide reliable, long lasting connections. The key to this quick, efficient connection system is the short 3mm operating stroke to terminate a wire. As seen in the current slide, a distance of only 3mm is needed to activate the spring leg via the orange button on top of the block, and this can be done with basically any tool; a flat screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver, or even a pen. When using the ST spring terminal blocks, a specific size flat screwdriver is inserted 18mm to properly engage the spring. This results in a 35% faster connection than spring Again, this enforces the fact that this is a fast connection terminal block.
