case basics
Phoenix Contact specializes in both connectivity to the PCB and cases or housings for electronics. The Environmental Case System (or ECS) from Phoenix Contact combines an IP67/NEMA 4X enclosure design that is similar to the boxes shown here, but with modern and versatile connection technology – the industry standard M12 form factor. A majority of sensors being produced for rugged environments are migrating to this connection technology. It only makes sense to use these same connectors on the equipment that monitors and controls those peripherals. The basic construction of the ECS enclosure is a base and a faceplate. There are several faceplates available that vary between one or two M12 connections, a cable gland, or a blank faceplate for incorporating any other desired connectors. The PCB is connected to the faceplate via included mounting hardware after the PCB has been fully assembled. This is possible due to the two piece M12 design which consists of a soldered insert and a metal housing mounted on the plate.
