Because ASHRAE requires a 3T + H in the front of the cabinet and a T in the rear of the cabinet, selecting an intelligent PDU over a basic power strip makes the most sense. With the Gen 5 PDU the end user does not need an intermediary 1RU appliance to enable environmental monitoring or access control. These digital self-identifying sensors can be plugged directly to the PDU, therefore saving the customer time, money and rack space. For underfloor power; a liquid leak detection is typically good practice; placed at every row or every other row. The sensor hub is a passive hub allowing for 1 in 3 out to maximize the amount of sensors that are attached to the Gen 5 PDU. Electronic rack access is also now possible through the use of a door mountable access hub and managed directly through the PDU. Up to 8 HID cards can be programmed per access hub. Finally, a door contact switch can set off an alarm when it is sensed to be open and an automatic rack access light can brighten up a typically dark cabinet once a door is opened.
