At first glance, the Panduit Gen 5 iPDU has outlets that are 180 degrees offset from one another. This was done for maximizing outlet density and to enable the ability to disconnect a locking power cord without having to remove the adjacent one. All Gen 5 intelligent network controllers are designed to be hot-swappable and 180 degree rotatable, thus enabling a single PDU part number to be used for either overhead or underfloor power. The redundant network access allows for two uplinks in a daisy chain configuration; giving the user another access point if, for some reason, 1 goes down. The USB port can be used to not only upgrade the firmware or configuration but it can also be leveraged to attach a USB LED automatic light strip, which illuminates if a door is sensed open. The outlets have been color coded to their respective breakers to help the installer in load-balancing when wiring in the IT equipment. The Gen 5 PDU sensors are all digital accommodating true plug-and-play, resulting in labor savings when compared with analog sensors that need to be manually configured. The controller features a processor that is powerful enough to enable electronic rack access directly from the PDU. The user is able to daisy chain up to 4 PDUs and 32 sensing points; resulting in minimal IP address usage. Last but not least, the Gen 5 PDUs feature an operating temperature of 60°C at full load for an extended period of time (without the need for derating the load). As a result of this achievement they also feature a standard 3 year warranty. With digital security being top of mind, the Gen 5 PDUs not only have SNMP but also hardened digital security through security scanning. Security scanning is a brute force attack onto the firmware of the PDU, designed to give up vulnerabilities. Armed with this data, Panduit was able to plug these holes, resulting in the most secure PDU on the market.
