Many of Panasonic’s FPC connectors contain both top and bottom contacts. Depending on the FPC wiring conditions, this will eliminate the need for choosing between a top or bottom type contact connector. This grants more freedom of design in the future when making necessary changes to the board layout. Several of Panasonic’s FPC type connectors such as the Y3BW and Y5BW series also contain special FPC holding contacts which temporarily hold the inserted FPC in place before locking the lever. The holding contacts can be engaged when using a special FPC containing notches on both ends. In addition to prevent displacement of the FPC during assembly, these holding contacts also have the added benefit of providing additional retention to the connector during use. The most unique feature of the connectors is the back lock structure. Since the lever of the connector is located on the opposite side of the FPC inlet, any upward bending of the FPC will not risk re-opening the lever. Panasonic’s connectors are delivered with the levers already opened whereas standard FPC connectors from other suppliers are typically received with the lever in the locked position. This is helpful by reducing the number of steps required to insert the FPC allowing for higher work efficiency during the assembly process. One final feature of the back lock structure is the four mold walls of the FPC inlet which also assists in creating a smooth insertion and preventing displacement of the FPC once inserted.
