The next sensing method, also commonly used, is Diffuse Reflective. The E3Z diffuse reflective sensors detect the target based on how much light is returned after it has reflected off of the object. The diffuse reflective is single housing and does not require anything else in order to detect. Because a Diffuse reflective uses the objects reflectance to detect, it can also discern between colors and distances, but not both at the same time. However, not having a consistent background also means this sensors detection capabilities and stability are affected by surrounding reflected light, surface finish and angles of object. E3Z’s Diffuse reflective models excel in detection of product registrations marks that present large color differences such as black on white or red on white, commonly seen on many food and commodity products. The E3Z can also be used up to 1 m in presence/absence detection in which space is very confined, however it would be recommended to have a stable background for the sensor.
