To elaborate further about Kinetis and the enablement bundle, NXP is also a one-stop-shop for the complete enablement bundle of hardware platforms and development software. NXP offers the NXP MQX RTOS, a fully bundled, complete real-time operating system with a strong history in the embedded arena. The MQX RTOS has been on the market for fifteen years and has been certified by users for medical and defense applications. The RTOS features a full and robust kernel; plus tightly integrated USB and TCP/IP, along with an MS-DOS compliant file system. In addition to that there are drivers for all other I/O modules on chip. NXP distributes the standard NXP MQX source code free of charge. The RTOS comes with an API which enables developers to optimize the image for their application; optional components can be added or removed as necessary to ensure that the footprint is not increasing the system memory requirements unnecessarily. The NXP MQX RTOS can help save huge amounts of time and effort, can enable a quick and simple set of all key peripherals and can help designers get to market faster with their end product. Also, there is the NXP Tower Platform. This is a simple, low cost yet flexible development platform for quick and simple evaluation of NXP’s embedded microcontrollers and microprocessors, including the Kinetis family. The key feature of the Tower System is the flexibility. It enables the user to quickly and easily add on and evaluate different modules and functionality along with the family of choice. There are over one hundred different combinations of the Tower platform available to be used together. Finally, in addition to the broad ARM ecosystem that will support the Kinetis family, including key vendors IAR and Keil, NXP will support the Kinetis family with the latest edition of CodeWarrior, CodeWarrior 10.0 Eclipse. The CodeWarrior 10.0 implements the Eclipse based front end and provides a full package of compiler, debugger and linker capabilities for the Kinetis family. Also integrated in CodeWarrior is Processor Expert, which is a fast, simple graphical initialization tool that enables the user to quickly set up the peripherals on the Kinetis family. The entire platform that encompasses the Kinetis MCU range includes; NXP MQX, the Tower System and CodeWarrior. All of these have been pre-integrated and tested to provide developers with a complete, bundled solution ready to be used out of the box. NXP is also engaging with IAR to enable such a solution based on the IAR embedded work bench. This combination of components provides a true one-stop-shop solution.
