As a general rule, capacitor ESR increases as size decreases, but Nichicon polymer technology allows them to lower the ESR and reduce the case size as well. Nichicon polymer capacitors can withstand a much higher ripple current and offer much lower ESR than aluminum electrolytic capacitors. One polymer capacitor can have the same ripple current and ESR capability as seven to nine normal aluminum capacitors used in parallel. This allows customers to use fewer capacitors and save PC board space, as well as reduce cost.
