Safe operating area (SOA) is critical for designing MOSFET and system survival, particularly in fault conditions. The safe operating area is shown in the product datasheets to guide designers in designing for fault tolerance. As the Nexperia 40V superjunction part has better current capability, it will have a wider SOA than the competition, making the design easier for customers. The graph here shows the Nexperia BUK7S0R5-40H and PSMNR55-40SSH against similar RDS(on) competitor parts, with current capability measured at two different time intervals. Seen in both cases, Nexperia has better current capability than competitors due to the superjunction properties explained in the previous slide.
