The NXE1’s low profile package is made possible by patent-pending multilayer technology that embeds the transformer in the layers of the substrate, utilizing laminated layers of FR-4 glass epoxy with alternating layers of copper, with interconnecting vias to create the windings around an embedded core. This technique provides not only lower production cost, but also more consistent electrical performance from the magnetic component. Replacement of the labor intensive manual operations with automated processes removes the variability in the manual elements of transformer construction, thus resulting in completely automated manufacture of the NXE converter that delivers the improvements in performance and cost while also enhancing reliability. The embedded transformer results in a low height profile, and the construction supports 3 kV of isolation that broadens the scope of applications that can utilize the NXE1 solution. The patent pending process provides added protection of these enhancements from competitive offerings.
