This slide shows the possible graphics subsystem topologies using different PIC24FJ DA family RAM options based on the color and resolution requirements. For the majority of the graphical interface applications where 256 colors are sufficient in the designs, designers will be able to take advantage of the built-in 96kB frame buffer without needing an external RAM component. This means an elimination of external components and reduction of overall system BOM cost. The family also offers a built-in 24kB frame buffer option to support 1) low color depth and resolution, or 2) high color depth and/or high LCD resolution with an interface to external SRAM. The PIC24FJ DA family 24kB RAM option now provides the lowest cost point to offset the external component cost.
