The GA3 family is a member of Microchip’s PIC24F 16 MIPS 16-bit family. The family includes device with 64KB and 128KB of flash and 8K of RAM. The devices include a strong combination of comparators, timers, and serial channels that can be optimized to a customers needs with peripheral pin select. In addition the family includes a parallel master port for data storage or transfer and a CRC. This presentation has already discussed some of the new low power feature but it is worth mentioning some of the other power operating modes. The family includes the run, idle, doze and sleep modes common to most PICs as well as the deep sleep mode added to many of the XLP devices. These power modes are supplemented by the new LV (low voltage) sleep mode and VBAT.  In addition to the power mode this family includes the power and system monitors required to build a robust system. The device also includes 12-bit, 24 channel ADC. The ADC includes a threshold detect function that allows the ADC to wake the CPU when a specific threshold window is reached. The threshold detect function is particularly useful when used with the Charge Time Measurement Unit (CTMU) in a capacitive touch application. The button or proximity sensor can be monitored while the device is in sleep and can wake when a specific threshold value is reached. The CTMU can also be used in many different ultrasonic flow measurement systems. The constant current source at the heart of the CTMU can also be used to easily implement a number of current based sensors.
