This is an example of how a microcontroller based LED light can be simplified by using the IS32LT3175 device. The original solution in white PCB required a pre-programmed MCU, four transistors, three zener diodes and various discrete resistors and capacitors for a total of 43 components. The equivalent form, fit and improved functional solution using the LT3175 requires only 19 components, the majority being resistors and capacitors with only one diode for reverse battery protection. A design requiring less components not only reduces cost it also increases reliability since there are less components to fail.
