Circuit Protection Slide 3

Overvoltage situations occur when the flow of electricity exceeds the voltage rating for an electrical circuit, which can damage electrical components and cause personal injury. These surges can be transient or long-lasting depending on the type of overvoltage event responsible for the surge. Overvoltage events are commonly caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge, incorrect wiring, or electromagnetic induction. Similar to lightning surges, AC power lines may cause a power contact or power induction condition.
