Circuit Protection Slide 12

A port is a connector that serves as an interface on a computer, motor, appliance, telephone, or other electrical device that serves as a connection point to another device or power source. Port protection ranges from the everyday needs of a TV plug to the more complicated protection required by HDMI and DVI ports. Most ports require protection from damage caused by both overcurrent and overvoltage events, which the hybrid devices mentioned earlier are ideal for.  A small number of applications, such as sensors and transformers, rely more heavily on overcurrent circuit protection devices.
